Hey Turds,

The summer came, it was hot, we hated it…here we are! We approach this school year with the same excitement and enthusiasm as usual. We love seeing our students return and the neighborhood come alive after the summer lull. Even with the excitement and love we have for the barbershop, this year has been a huge challenge. Do not fret, turds. We aren’t here to give you bad news…just taking some time for real talk and sharing.

Most people can probably appreciate the challenge of being a barber and running a business. On slow days you’re worried about making ends meet, and on the busy ones you’re on your feet and barely have a moment to yourself. We are all feeling the tightness of resources right now, everything is expensive and it never feels like there is enough time in the day to work and take care of oneself (never mind finding time to relax or have fun). On top of the life challenges that we all deal with, the Liberty team has also suffered significant loss. The kind of loss that leaves you breathless and wondering how you will wake up and keep going every day. We do keep going and going until one day, we can’t. We eventually manage because we all have people who depend on us and it’s worth building this together.

The last few months, years (lifetimes) have really tested us as a team; we’re constantly questioning our leadership. Are we unreasonable, do we trust others too easily/not easily enough? Are we being honest, but gentle? Did we communicate what was in our brain and we assumed the other person understood? Being flawed humans in this world together brings so many challenges. Most of us are probably questioning our decisions daily. The best thing to do is be open, authentic, and kind. Feedback delivered in the right way is a gift. Transparency, context, healthy boundaries…we all need these things for each other. So, our only advice (should you be crazy enough to follow it) is to have the difficult conversations. Do your best to approach them with an open heart and gentle language. Value the people, not the things they do for you.

With all of that said, let’s take this collective, supportive energy and bring that feeling with you everywhere you go! Thank you so much to all of you who have been part of this journey and continue to grow with us. Obviously, we can’t do this without you!

Love,

The Liberty Team

IMPORTANT UPDATES…

1. You must bring a physical form of payment to your appointment. We accept cash, credit/debit cards and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay. The credit card on file is only to reserve your spot and only gets charged if you no call/no show.

2. We require appointments. Please do not call to inquire about walk in availability. Use our online booking system. If you decide to walk in, it is up to the discretion of each barber if they can accommodate you.

3. Once you are 15 minutes late for an appointment, you are considered a no show, and a missed appointment fee will be assessed equal to the cost of a short haircut.

4. We don’t have a full-time person answering our phone. If you need to reach us quickly, you can text our business number or message through Square. Voicemails will be screened and we will do our best to return calls the next business day.

INTRODUCING BETSY… Please join us in welcoming Betsy Miller to Liberty Barbers! She’s been cutting hair for about 10 years, and we are so excited she’s joined the team. She brings great calming energy to the shop, and we hope you consider booking with her in the future. You can find her here on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. She also has a Bassett Hound named Lili Faye, who’s birthday is in October; and she talks about her often!

HANNAH… Can you believe Hannah has been with us now for 4 years!? Despite Chris and his crap attitude, she keeps showing up! Maybe she’s crazy, maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline.

JENNY… Jenny has been busy with her bookkeeping side gig and all things Roux La La! Speaking of which, come watch her perform at Krewe of Boo! The parade rolls on Saturday the 23rd of October at 6:30 pm!

DEBY… We love Miss Deby. She does everything with a sense of humor and a sense of style that more of us need. We should schedule Real Talk sessions with Miss Deby…we’ll let her negotiate the rate!

CHRIS… Not like anyone cares, but Chris went fishing a couple of times and took sick days. Whatever.

MOXIE… Life working remotely is really strange and I don’t even like cats, but there is two of them at my home office. I never let them in; my mommy seems to like cats. I don’t know what’s wrong with her; I am very concerned. I know people keep looking for me so they can feed me snacks and chicken, and they really miss telling me how great I am. It’s OK. I think we’ll plan The Great Chickening, and everyone will feed me then go home. Stay tuned. I also wanted to mention that I heard another dog was at the shop, but don’t be fooled! She doesn’t even know about the 4 stages of beagling or loving my mommy. I heard mommy pet her tummy though and that was really scary. Nobody respects me as EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, LITERALLY EVERY MONTH! Maybe snack mommy does. She’s not bringing cats and extra dogs around. Gumbo is pretty cool though. I don’t mind him being in my office and it has been a year, so I guess he’s staying. It’s OK…I will just beagle my way through these hard times.

GOOD THOUGHTS FROM THE GOODEST BOY… thanks Moxie. I like ham. Anyone else think about ham a lot?
