Hey Family,
This isn’t exactly the issue we expected to publish. On January first one individual stole our collective breath, leaving all of us stunned. We woke up with a plan to celebrate our achievements over the last year and announce news and plans for the year to come. Normally we would catch up on the Pelicans or important happenings on Maple Street. Normally we would give someone a special shoutout and share what’s going on with the team. Normally Moxie would be employee of the month, literally every month and Chris would gripe about something absurd. We can still do those things and be ourselves, that’s just hard to do right now.
Most of us probably feel some combination of sadness, anger, and confusion. What’s the right thing to do or say? Do we cancel work and football games? Stay at home? What is respectful; what is disrespectful? How/why? Do we gather in the streets the way it’s done in New Orleans, and will the world judge us when we do? Who knows. But one thing that can be done today and every day is to show love. Show kindness. Be there for each other and share in joy and sadness with the people around you. With that sharing in mind, we hope you appreciate this long overdue issue of The Polished Turd. It’s been such a nice (if not strange) way to remain connected to you all.
We love our Liberty Family. We love New Orleans! Thank you for continuing to give us the opportunity to be a part of this community.
With love and gratitude,
The Liberty Team
TEAM UPDATE… Please join us in welcoming Daniel Stegner to the team! He is gearing up to be our next apprentice once Hannah has completed her state boards. You’re likely already familiar with his work as one of our featured artists, and we’re excited to bring him aboard. For now, he’s helping with day-to-day shop maintenance so stay tuned for more details to come!
Aside from that exciting news, the gang is up to the usual shenanigans. Jenny and Hannah spend most of their time huddled together like little old ladies, complaining about Chris and their aging bodies…while Chris basically complains about everything. We don’t know how Deby puts up with us, but she continues to be a trooper showing up to take care of her long-time customers.
But, when it comes to team updates perhaps the most important is our announcement of the latest EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, LITERALLY EVERY MONTH. Some say she’s great, others say she’s really great. Everyone agrees she can beagle the third way. You know her, you love her…she’s MOXIE!!!!!
MERCH…If it’s been a while since you’ve visited, you’ve missed out on some new editions (and we’ve restocked some old favorites too)! We’re most excited about our latest T-shirt designed by the extremely talented Jannae Knospe! Liberty Barbers is a proud member of the UFCW Local 496, and we couldn’t be happier with our beautiful union shirts! We also started carrying tote bags available in our Cobra and Guillotine designs. They look great and are high quality.
MARDI GRAS…Please keep in mind that Chris will be heavily involved in Mardi Gras this year with the Krewe of Rolling Elvi. You can catch him rolling in the following parades:
Cleopatra – February 21
King Arthur – February 23
Muses – February 27
Iris – March 1
THE SHOP WILL BE CLOSED February 27 – March 5, 2025; please plan ahead as this is always our busiest time of the year.
